.m. in the east, 1:00 p.m. out west. i'm miguel marquez. if you're just tuning in, thanks for joining us. these are the top stories we're following in the cnn newsroom. new details about the murders of two military veterans, one a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the siste

of the most lethal sniper in u.s. history. chris kyle was fatally shot at a texas gun range. in lancaster, texas, mark, what can you tell us? >> reporter: lester, that gun range was chris kyle's second home practically. we are about 100 miles east of there in lancaster, texas. this is where the suspect, eddy ralph is from, being held in this police department, already gone before a judge arraigned on two counts of capital murder. we have some video from the scene on where ralph was captured. we are still trying to get more information on him. at this point, as far as a criminal history, he was convicted of dwi last year. what we are trying to find out is motive, and what, if any, relationship he had with chris kyle and the other victim, chad littlefield. the texas highway patrol is one of the agencies investigating. here is what they say he did right after the murders. >> he traveled back to his residence in lancaster. lancaster police department was able to catch up with him there. they took him into custody wo without incident after a brief pursuit. >> reporter: police tell us they have

bunker is dead. this is animation.giving us an idea of what that underground bunker looked like. just a short time ago, f-b- i officials announcing they stormed the underground bunker.rescuing the boy. it's not clear if the kidnapper, 65-year-old jimmy dykes was shot by authorities or if he took his own life. officials say negotiations with dykes recently deteriorated and they believed the boy was in immediate danger. this ends a 7-day stand- off, after dykes boarded a school bus, shot and killed the driver, before taking the 5-year-old boy hostage. that bunker was up a dirt road on dykes' property.the child was receiving medicine, food, even toys through p-v-c ventilation piping. this was in south eastern alabama in rural midland city. about 80 miles from the capital of montgomery. details of the rescue operation are still emerging.and we'll keep you posted. >> pam: only on four -- we have just tracked down new information on the prime suspect. in the kidnapping of kevin collins. the san francisco abduction made national headlines in 19-84. just hours ago, kron4's maureen kelly spoke
